Surfrider vs Sandy
Surfrider is kicking into action as spring rolls in! Stop by the Tuesday, April 16th 7-8:30 meeting at Pilgrim in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (no longer at Patagonia SoHo) to get involved as things get going!! Surfrider has also another event coming up. A meeting of the eco-minds to discuss the science behind our very disgruntled environment. This will be in Wall Township, NJ, but worth the trip (take the train to Belmar). Spend Earth Day (yes, 4.20) building a community garden in Rockaway and Sunday learning about global warming…sounds like a damn good weekend! Tree seedlings will be given to the first 100 attendees. If you live in NY, you could probably use some more greenery.

Helping muck out Hurricane Sandy stricken homes right after the storm hit it was really great to see the outpouring from the community who came out in masses to help in any way they could. However, soon after, we saw volunteerism and media attention wane, although help for the victims of Hurricane Sandy was and still is needed. We were inspired to team up with Pop Up Yoga NYC to host weekly fundraiser classes throughout the month of March to benefit ongoing relief for the Rockaway Shore. Also, were drawn to Rockaway Beach Surf Club’s relentless work to rebuild the shore – “Rockaway Beach Surf Club has become the nerve center for its neighborhood’s post-Sandy relief efforts.” - Crains New York All proceeds will go towards Rockaway Beach Surf Club (RBSC) to help with ongoing reconstruction of the coastline.

Confetti System at PS1
You’ve probably been out to MoMA PS1 for a summertime Warm Up party, but it’s worth a trek during the colder months too. NY-based Confetti System is on display until March 31st with some fun events this weekend. Perhaps on the way back from Long Beach tomorrow you’ll stop in 5-6pm to also see the live debut of NY-based dance/techno/house/acid band MASKS.

A lovable local who’s got an eye for swell, runs with a salty crowd and goes by the alias of “tcolla” is debuting some new photography at Lost Weekend!! This sweet spot generally lies low, nestled on Orchard Street way downtown – they serve up a smooth coffee, offer thoughtful reading material like WAX and handcrafted accessories for the urban dweller/surfer. It is a mellow little spot that you ought to to visit…how about April 4th? See you then.
